Moving into a new home rarely goes without stress. Just packing all the things you want to take with you and sorting out the things that have accumulated over the months and years but are no longer needed are tedious enough. Good thing there are digital helpers that make it easier to find a new place to live or to get moving quotes. “Move” checklists and eMove, for example, prevent you from forgetting important things. PCtipp recently compiled the best tools and checklists that can make moving easier.

Handy checklists

Checklists are particularly useful for a smooth move; they prevent you from forgetting important things. PCtipp recommends the following links for this purpose:

There you will also find further information on deregistration and registration with the municipality of residence, on car and driver’s licences when moving.

Find moving and cleaning companies

The days when you had to Google moving companies and then call them all or email all the details to 5 companies individually or fill in a form are over. Both Comparis and Homegate (movu.ch) offer the option of obtaining up to five quotes from removal and/or cleaning companies in your area in one step. For moves from abroad, PCtipp recommends the Compare Removal Companies website (umzugsunternehmen-vergleichen.ch).

These websites can help you clear out things you no longer want to take with you: for example, you can find the locations of clothing collection points via Texaid or Tell-Tex. And if you need a skip, you can find one at Mulden-express.ch or regiomulde.ch.

Deregistering in the municipality of residence and re-registering at the new place of residence

You can also deregister with your current municipality or re-register with the municipality you are moving to digitally. The obligation to register is 14 days from the date of the change of address. The use of eUmzugCH is voluntary and, according to the website, does not lead to any additional costs compared to going to the counter. However, not all communes are connected to this website yet. You may still have to register your move in accordance with the requirements of your new or old municipality of residence.

Find a flat with Comparis and its app

Comparis currently (2022) obtains its information from eleven Swiss real estate portals – including homegate.ch, ImmoScout24, urbanhome.ch or iCasa.ch – and, according to its own information, currently has over 100,000 advertisements for rental properties (as of 20.10.22).

The PlanYourMove web app guides you through the entire relocation process
