Autumn is slowly approaching again and with it comes the time of the design and art fairs. The photo basel (from 21 to 26 September) and Art Basel (from 20 to 23 September for invited guests only and from 24 to 26 September for the general public) have just opened. And already BLICKFANG announces its fairs in Basel from 1 to 3 October and in Zurich from 19 to 21 November in the newly opened Kongresshaus.
Art Basel 2021
Art connoisseurs probably don’t need much introduction to Art Basel. Founded in 1970 by the Basel art gallery owners Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner and Balz Hilt, the fair proved to be a success right from the start: 90 galleries and 30 publishers from 10 countries exhibited at the inaugural fair and attracted over 15,000 visitors.
At Art Basel 2021 from 21 to 26 September, 272 leading galleries from around the world will present works of the highest quality in all media, from rare and historic masterpieces to new works by today’s emerging artists. In addition to showcasing exceptional art in the Galleries, Features, Statements and Editions sectors, the fair will also feature 62 large-scale artworks in “Unlimited”, 20 site-specific projects in “Parcours”, two performative interventions by artists Monster Chetwynd and Cecilia Bengolea, an ambitious film programme and the fair’s renowned “Conversations” series.
photo basel, Switzerland’s first and only photo art fair, returns to the Volkshaus Basel for its sixth edition. The fair will take place from 21 to 26 September 2021, at the same time as the renowned art fair Art Basel. It sees itself as an integrative and hybrid platform that connects all the players in the art world (online and in real life).
In recent decades, photography has been able to establish itself more and more in international museums and forms a central foundation in recent art history. As a fair, photo basel wants to contribute actively to this dialogue and bring together art photography with all its different interest groups.
This year, photo basel offers hospitality to 40 international exhibitors from 16 nations, including the newly added galleries Robert Morat (Berlin), Migrant Bird Space (Berlin), Gowen Contemporary (Geneva), Galerie 193 (Paris), Artco (Berlin, Aachen & Cape Town), AKKA (Venice & Dubai), ISSP (Riga), Gallery Bart (Amsterdam), Thierry Marlat (Paris).
Special attractions include the Vintage Cabinet with vintage prints on the sound dimension of photography, the homage to the recently deceased Swiss photographer Arnold Odermatt, the NFT Cabinet showing how a modern trade fair could also function hybrid in the near future, the flood art project with so-called “flooded art” and the specially created photo studio by the renowned Swiss fashion photographer Peter Knapp, winner of the Swiss Grand Award for Design 2021.
BLICKFANG in Basel und Zurich
BLICKFANG is the largest design platform for independent design in Europe. In 2021, BLICKFANG will bring together the independent design scene at six international locations and present individual furniture, fashion, jewellery and home accessories away from the big shopping streets and furniture stores. BLICKFANG Basel from 1 to 3 October 2021
