Switzerland’s most beautiful swimming pools.
18.05.2026Summer is just around the corner. Off to the outdoor pool! But those who live in luxury want to spend their free time at select outdoor pools – because not every property has its own swimming pool. For the third time, Schweizer Heimatschutz is showcasing, in its publication “Die schönsten Bäder” (in German and French only), where a dip not only refreshes but also captivates with exclusive architecture or a special location. Two qualities that are, as we know, also highly sought-after for flats and detached houses.

In this small, handy booklet featuring short, concise texts and inviting images, Schweizer Heimatschutz presents 50 open-air swimming pools across Switzerland. They are located in towns, in the countryside, in the mountains, by a lake or river – such as the Rhybadi Schaffhausen on the Rhine, home to Europe’s oldest bathing establishment, dating from 1870.

As the “water castle” of Europe, Switzerland boasts waters of outstanding quality. Many bathing spots also date from an era that left its mark on architecture and garden design; their diving platforms and kiosk pavilions, as well as the sunbathing lawns, have frequently been restored in recent years in accordance with heritage conservation principles.

The Schweizer Heimatschutz is committed to ensuring that this tourist and architectural heritage is preserved for future generations. Three accompanying texts on the topics of water quality and the construction of open-air swimming pools, as well as on the Swiss swimming pool construction pioneer Beda Hefti, underline this educational approach.

The new swimming pool guide thus ensures that we consciously appreciate and protect not only our architectural heritage but also our aquatic landscapes, and belongs in every swimming bag.
