photo basel: melting point of art photography.

16.06.2025

photo basel is the first and only photo art fair in Switzerland and is dedicated exclusively to art photography. The fair brings together galleries from all over the world in a unique, authentic setting and sees itself as an integrative platform that connects many players in the art world. As a fair, photo basel actively contributes to the dialog in the field of photography and makes art photography accessible to a specialist and broad public through a diverse supporting program (including free guided tours, special parcours and panel talks).

photo basel welcomes 39 galleries from 15 countries to its 10th anniversary edition. More than 450 photographic positions by over 150 artists will be shown.

In his precisely staged still lifes, Basel photographer Moritz Herzog explores themes of perception, identity and transience.

photo basel is delighted to welcome the following galleries for the first time this year: Momentum Fine Art (Miami), Galerie Sophie Scheidecker (Paris), Galerie & Edition Stephan Witschi (Zurich), Ostlicht (Vienna), Rademakers (Amsterdam), Lightworks (Sydney), FOG (Bratislava), AB Gallery (Seoul), blackprint Gallery (Zurich).

Interesting addition to Art Basel

Since 2016, photo basel has been located in the immediate vicinity of the Art Basel exhibition grounds, in the beautiful premises of Volkshaus Basel. The Volkshaus Basel is a gently renovated building by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, which houses cultural highlights such as a bar, a restaurant, a beer garden and a hotel.

The Volkshaus is located at Rebgasse 12, just 700 meters from the Art Basel exhibition grounds.

beyond photography

“Beyond Photography” is a curated selection of photographic positions that – as the name suggests – go beyond photography with the use of various mixing techniques, special printing techniques or a shift from the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional – numerous different approaches contribute to an expansion of the medium of photography and the “Beyond Photography” sector aims to take these formats into account.
